ABOUT STREET HEROINES

Join filmmaker Alexandra Henry and a catalytic group of artists for a special exhibition of the artists’ work to benefit STREET HEROINES, a feature documentary that celebrates the creativity and courage of female graffiti and street artists. Against great odds, these articulate, talented, and strong young women are producing visually stunning work that transforms the urban environment and spreads messages of empathy in the international world of graffiti.

The culture of graffiti and street art has historically been male-dominated, and women still struggle to gain recognition for their contributions and artistry in the global movement. In 2012, Henry’s chance encounter with two young women painting a wall in New York City inspired her to document female artists who are altering the urban landscape. Traveling to more than ten countries, their stories vividly illustrate the spirit and driving energy of these women and the challenges they face on the street and in their societies to bring their artistry and their important social, political, and environmental messages directly to the public.

ABOUT ALEXANDRA HENRY

Alexandra Henry is a photographer, producer and first-time director working on her personal film project ‘Street Heroines’ that documents female graffiti and street artists working in North and South America and the obstacles they face in the male-dominated subculture. A nomad and 2x recognized emerging artist by CurateNYC, her body of work explores architecture, graffiti, and unembellished details of densely populated areas that define our daily urban experience.
