SSB Away Artist Allison Jae Evans’ Exhibition – The Vessel

At Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Brooklyn
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 2, 1-8 pm

SSB is proud to showcase a new exhibition by Evans, who was 2018’s SSB Away artist in residence in Tuscany, Italy for 3 weeks.

With a restrained linear vocabulary, Evans draws viewers deep into a secret world of ritual, possession, objectivity, and power. A mysterious narrative combining referents to classical antiquity and modern esoterica pours across the exhibition space. Onlookers cast a scrying gaze deep into the psychic well of this vessel, seduced by the uncanny and the unknown. The show continues through May 8, 2022.

Allison Jae Evans was born in New Haven, CT and currently lives/works in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BA from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, and an MFA from Hunter College in NYC. Evans’s work has been exhibited at The Journal, 106 Green, and Atlanta Contemporary, among other venues. Her work has been featured in New American Paintings, Maake Magazine, and Hyperallergic, and has been reviewed in The New York Times. She was a 2016 Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant Nominee.
