Exhibition at Howl! Happening November 16–December 19, 2018

SSB is always delighted to collaborate with our partner Howl! Happening and we’re particularly happy to help spread the word about their upcoming show: Thomas Lanigan-Schmidt’s Tenemental (With Sighs Too Deep for Words), opening reception November 16th, 6–9 PM. Not afraid of beauty, he has created a body of work that is completely unique. Using humble, often discarded materials, he has fashioned an exuberant, over the top aesthetic that simultaneously dazzles the eye and probes deeply into the complex intersections of sexuality, class, and religion.

Thomas Lanigan Schmidt. Lollipop Knick Knack (Let’s Talk About You), c. 1968-69. Foil, printed material, linoleum, glitter, staples, magic marker, found objects and other media

In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall rebellion, Tenemental honors Lanigan-Schmidt’s unique contribution to both the language of art and continued struggle for LGBTQ liberation. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalog with essays by Dan Cameron, Carlo McCormick, Agosto Machado, and Roger Wieck, and well as an interview with Jonathan Weinberg.
